Meet Dr. Alexander
Dr. Alexander has continued his interest in the academic dentistry and teaches at the VCU Dental School in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery on a part time basis. One of the highlights of his career was his appointment as a board examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for a tenure of 6 years. Dr. Alexander’s surgical interests include jaw reconstruction for tumors and trauma to the jaw, orthodontic surgery for congenital and developmental jaw problems. Recently he has been involved with sleep apnea and snoring patients utilizing both dental appliances and jaw surgery to improve this most disruptive medical problem. Dr. Alexander has been involved with dental implant reconstruction for 20 years and with the great innovative advances in techniques and materials this area is becoming a greater focus of his practice. He is a member of the local, state and national dental and oral and maxillofacial surgery organizations and in addition is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. Dr. Alexander is an antique buff and recently he and his wife, Helen, restored the ultimate antique- a home built in 1913 in Richmond’s historic Fan District. The home was featured on HBO’s Restore America. Since moving to the historic district of the City of Richmond he has become involved in various historic preservation organizations and various local museums. John has two children, Standish, a lawyer in Richmond and Sterling, a graduate student at UVA in Charlottesville. |
